Destination Medicine Podcast: Georgia’s Journey Towards a Career in Medicine
15 May 2025
Georgia Goodhew is a passionate and determined Doctor of Medicine (MD) student at Charles Sturt University. Her medical journey began in Orange, NSW, where she embarked on the path to becoming a medical professional. Leaving her home town of Narrabri, she laid the foundation for her medical knowledge and skills.
Now in her clinical years, Georgia is continuing her studies in Griffith, where she is gaining hands-on experience in the field. This phase of her education allows her to apply the theory she has learnt while working alongside seasoned professionals and serving local communities. For Georgia, these experiences reaffirm the importance of accessible healthcare in regional Australia, and she remains committed to playing her part.
Making a Difference Beyond the Classroom: Boots to Scrubs
Beyond her studies, Georgia’s passion for fostering greater participation in medical education has driven her to co-found Boots to Scrubs, an initiative designed to inspire and support others aspiring to enter the medical field. As Vice Chair of the program, Georgia takes on a pivotal role, providing mentorship and guidance to future healthcare professionals. The initiative seeks to bridge gaps in opportunity, especially for individuals from rural and remote areas, encouraging them to pursue careers in medicine and healthcare.
CUC Western Riverina Student Ambassador: Empowering Others Through Education
In addition to her leadership role in Boots to Scrubs, Georgia serves as a Student Ambassador for the Country Universities Centre Western Riverina. In this role, she actively engages with the local community, sharing her personal experiences and encouraging others to pursue their educational aspirations. As someone who has embraced the benefits of regional education, Georgia understands the unique challenges and opportunities faced by students in rural areas.
Her involvement with CUC Western Riverina is a testament to her belief in the transformative power of education. By sharing her story, Georgia hopes to inspire other students—particularly those living outside major metropolitan centres—to follow their dreams and make the most of the resources available to them. Whether offering advice on balancing studies or providing insights into the medical field, Georgia’s enthusiasm is infectious, making her a valued mentor and role model within our community.
