Maximo Siufi is a Charles Sturt University Doctor of Medicine student who began his studies in Orange, NSW, completing the theoretical components of his degree. Maxi then moved to Griffith for three years of practical training and placement with the School of Rural Medicine – Murrumbidgee.

Beyond his studies, Maxi actively supports future students as a Student Ambassador for the Country Universities Centre Western Riverina, offering valuable insights into pathways to higher education. He also played a significant role in the Centre’s 2024 University of Wollongong Future Me Program, helping Year 12 students from Griffith and Leeton transition from high school to university.

Reflecting on his academic journey, Maxi said, “I find the CUC incredibly useful for my studies and concentration as I can divide my home and study life into two separate categories. I often find that when I get home, I can’t separate what I did in placement and my regular life. Without a quiet and respectful place like this, I believe studying any degree, let alone a medical degree, would be incredibly difficult.”

I think studying is something that everyone can do. However, you need the um appropriate resources and the appropriate motivation and ambition to get through it. I think with places like the um Country Universities Centre and other study centres, you can really focus on your work and get something out of it that you enjoy doing. Currently, I study and work locally. I’ve been working up at the hospital on my placements essentially as well as working in town in various different locations.

It’s been hard being a regional student because I’ve had to move around a lot for placement and it can be often challenging to find good study places and also accommodation in these regional locations. Luckily with the um country university center, I’ve been able to have a place to study and a place to call home outside of home. >> Yeah. After completing my studies, I’d really like to um eventually settle down somewhere and find a more permanent position as a junior doctor and eventually as a consultant.

Um, I think in the long term I’d like to look into some physician training. Um, however, I would like to move back to the country at some point.
