Learning the language from Elders helps form a further respect and love for the content you are learning.”

Why did you choose your course and what do you enjoy most about it?

A teacher showed me the course, and as soon as she told me about it, I was enraptured. Although Wiradjuri is not my specific Aboriginal nation, I was so excited to learn about another culture through language. I wanted to do the course because I love the culture, but I also wanted to share its beauty with my community and the people I love. I enjoy learning directly from Wiradjuri community members and Elders, those who have spoken Wiradjuri for decades.

What are you hoping to gain from completing this course?

My main career goal is to provide more opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia. I believe that learning more about Wiradjuri language and culture will be incredibly important in reaching that goal, not just through the connection to community, but through a process of bettering myself and widening my knowledge.
