How do you plan to apply your knowledge and skills after graduation?

My medicine degree offers both knowledge and key skills that I will take after graduation into my career as a doctor. Doing placement at the hospital you can directly see what the job post-graduation entails. There are times where it is also important to sit down with the content and go through it (the CUC is perfect for this).

Share with us some of your proudest moments as a student.

My proudest moments as a student have been on my placements up at the hospital. I think one that comes to mind was seeing a little girl who said to me ‘When I grow up I am going to be a doctor like you’. That really resonated for me as I think seeing rural women becoming doctors allows young girls living in the country to know that they too are capable. There have been other awesome moments like seeing babies be born and assisting in surgeries that have definitely made me pinch myself.

What advice would you give to other regional and rural people who are considering higher education?

Give it a go! You don’t have to be a perfect person to study medicine or any degree. Some of my peers are parents, farmers, carers, teachers, dentists, actors, pilots and they are going to make amazing doctors. I would also say that there are some great scholarships and resources out there if you are considering higher education – as people know that studying in the country can be tough.
