“CUC is a great place to study and there is so much support available to students.”

Why did you choose your degree and what did you enjoy most about it?

I believe that all children and young people deserve to be safe and to have their needs met. I want to work with and support families to make and sustain change, and to help keep families together.

How important was having the CUC in your local town, and why?

I’m not able to study at home because I have three young children, so being able to go to the CUC is a blessing. It’s a wonderful atmosphere, and being there helps me stay on task. I’m also grateful for the staff at the CUC. They are so helpful and have so much knowledge to share with students.

Were there any specific challenges you faced as an online regional student? How did the CUC help you overcome them?

Studying online is a challenge, and having a place to go helps me feel like I’m not alone.

Are you still living in a regional town, and what do you love about it?

Yes, I live locally. Lovely people, delicious food, and a great place to raise my children.

Where are you working now, and what do you like about it? Is your career path what you originally intended?

I work in a caseworker role, supporting children and families directly, and I love it. I’m currently in my dream job.

What advice would you give to other regional and rural people considering higher education?

From someone who has deferred more than six times, just jump in and do it. The time will pass anyway, so start with one subject and see how you go. You don’t know until you try.
