Why did you choose your field of study?

I chose to study a Bachelor of Medical & Health Science at the University of Wollongong because I was unsure on what exact allied health field I wanted to pursue. I chose this bachelor’s degree as it was broad, allowing me to study a Master’s afterwards, such as Physiotherapy, Health Management, Occupational Therapy, etc.

Why did you register with the CUC?

I registered for CUCWR as I knew that I would come home from Wollongong often, especially during uni breaks, and I wanted to make sure I had a place that was suitable for study. I live just out of town, so my Wi-Fi is very inconsistent and not stable at the best of times which really affects my internet connection. I also get easily distracted at home and prefer to be surrounded by other people who are also studying as I find it motivating. Due to these reasons, and the fact that I had already heard great things about the CUC, I knew I would love it (which I definitely do).

Are you working locally?

In my uni holidays I work at Belvedere Ristorante as a casual waitress and occasionally help out at Griffith City Council’s youth events as I worked in the Community Development Department in my GAP year.

How do you plan to apply your knowledge and skills after graduation?

I am still unsure on what specific career I want to pursue. However, after graduation I will aim to secure a job and get my career started. Currently I am leaning towards health management or continuing full time study and completing a master’s in occupational therapy.

Share with us some of your proudest moments as a student.

My proudest moment as a student would have to be completing Year 12. I found HSC very stressful, and I definitely overworked myself more then I should have, However, in saying that, I was also very content with my ATAR and felt that my hard work had all paid off.

What advice would you give to other regional and rural people who are considering higher education?

Don’t be afraid to move away from home, there is so much more out there. As cliché as it sounds, you just have to jump into the deep end and have faith that you’ll swim, because you will. Find what drives you and don’t stop working until you achieve your goal.
